John Minkoff studied composition and conducting with faculty of the Hochschule fur Musik in Berlin Germany, and continued his studies in composition and conducting at Columbia University, with Jack Beeson and Rudolph Thomas, while getting a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.

Formerly a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff at the ATT Bell Telephone Laboratories, he is now a Senior Staff Scientist in the ITT Aerospace Communications Division and has served as Adjunct Professor of Applied Mathematics in the Department of Earth System Science Studies at New York University.

He also holds a B.S. in Music from The Juilliard School of Music, where he studied trumpet with William Vacchiano and music theory with Robert Ward. He has served as Associate Conductor of the North Jersey Symphony Orchestra where, in addition to orchestral works, he conducted concert performances of operas, including Magic Flute, Un Ballo in Maschera and Der Freischutz. He has also served as Guest Conductor with the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera, where he conducted opera performances with Metropolitan Opera singers Lucine Amara and Russell Christopher, orchestral works, and ballet, with the Irene Fokine Ballet Company.
